As one thought lead to the next, I began researching how virtues were illustrated during the early years of America. The woodcuts and engravings I found inspired me as I created this series.

A Pink is a small schooner that was designed for hauling cargo short distances in the North Sea. It doesn’t sound like a very comfortable or safe vessel to cross the Atlantic in, but many German Palatinate immigrants in the mid-eighteenth century did just that!
