A Reproduction Sampler

How could I resist this antique sampler with my own initials? I love the simplicity of it and of course those initial letters are fabulous! Even though the original BAS didn’t leave many hints to trace her in history, I am guessing from her ordered sampler and the ornate initials that she was of PA German heritage. I have included two bonus designs in the chart, inspired by the original, along with finishing instructions to complete as shown.

Antique samplers are like friends. Perhaps one reason that they are so enduring, is the connection that we feel with their stitchers as we look at them, stitch them, study them. I know Sarah Jane Grant would have been a kindred spirit. She obviously loved the natural world as she included birds, insects and even little dogs on her sampler. I let her inspire me to create three new projects, a smaller sampler, a double-sided pinkeep and a darner. Sweet projects to make for a friend or for yourself! Inspired by a PA German sampler from 1799

This design takes reproduction samplers to the next level. The sampler is not reproduced in its entirety, but serves as the basis for three prim loving projects, a huswife, an ort box and a needle book. A Reproduction Sampler

Miss Eliza Garside stitched her sampler in 1841 when she was aged 17. This sampler is full of juxtaposition from the naivety of the urn flowers to the classic form of the urn itself. I just can’t get enough of that “star” flower in the center! Eliza stitched her sampler in wools that were plentiful in her home county of Yorkshire, England, but she gave her name a bit of special treatment as it is stitched in silk. A “Charming” Pack for finishing Eliza’s Needlebook

The charm pack includes 3 antique bronze charms: heart, scissors, & spool. An eyelet and 6 jump rings for fastening on the charms. Please note, the scissor charm may be different than the one pictured, as that charm is no longer available.

Gentle flowers twine together and are tied with a simple heart bow. The bowl filler is finished with pom pom trim from Lady Dot Creates for a perfect token of love.
